Frequently asked questions

Answers on how the analysis works and how to take the results.

If your question isn't here, tell us. When an answer keeps coming up, we add it to this page.

Is it really free? Do I have to sign up?

It's free, and you can get the analysis without signing up. Saving with your mobile number and a 4-digit PIN is only there as an option, for when you want to see your results again later.

Which launch monitor screen should I upload?

Trackman, GOLFZON, Kakao VX, GDR, TWOVISION — most screens work, as long as the swing result numbers are visible. One photo per swing, up to 5.

The more of clubhead speed (or ball speed), launch angle, and backspin the screen shows, the more accurate the analysis. Try to keep the numbers from coming out blurry.

Can I just enter the numbers myself, without a photo?

You can. Below the photo upload area, press "I'll enter the numbers myself" and the table opens. Use it when you have no photo, or the automatic reading doesn't work.

My clubhead speed reads 45 — is that right?

That's in m/s. 45m/s is about 101mph. Korean devices often print m/s, while devices from abroad often print mph.

The tool converts it for you. Even when no unit is printed on the screen, it judges from the range of the numbers and converts, then tells you "converted m/s → mph". If it judged wrong, press the undo button.

There are a lot of blanks in the table — is it broken?

No. They're most likely items that device doesn't provide. A good number of the golf simulators used in Korea don't measure angle of attack, club path, or dynamic loft.

The tool doesn't guess at values it doesn't have. It collapses those items instead, and says "we've collapsed ○ items this device doesn't provide". If you want to enter them yourself, press "Show all".

If my FIT SCORE is low, do I have to change my shaft?

Not right away. Look first at the basis under the score, "○ critical · ○ caution". Then check the tag attached to each finding.

Plenty of "room to improve the equipment" means a shaft change can be expected to actually help. Plenty of "swing technique issue" means changing equipment won't move much. A lesson comes first.

Can I just buy the recommended shaft?

We wouldn't recommend that. This recommendation narrows down which direction to look in; it doesn't make the purchase decision for you.

Two shafts with the same spec sheet feel different once you hit them. Take the recommendation to a fitting studio, hit a few, and then decide. The fitting guide sets out what to ask.

Is data measured on a golf simulator trustworthy?

It varies from device to device. Distance in particular often comes out generous.

What this analysis looks at, though, is mostly ratios and relationships. Whether the launch angle suits the speed, whether spin is high or low for that speed. Even if the absolute values are a bit off, those relationships hold up reasonably well.

Still, five swings measured on the same device is best. Mixing data from different devices widens the spread.

Do I have to fill in all five swings?

One is enough to get an analysis. But with 2 or more we can analyze the spread too, which lets us point at consistency problems.

Enter only your one well-struck shot and the result comes out better than reality. Mixing the good ones and the bad ones, at your usual level, is more accurate.

What happens to the photos and the data I enter?

Photos are used only to read the numbers and aren't stored on the server. Your results are recorded only if you choose to save them.

The details are set out in the privacy policy.

Do you analyze irons and woods too?

Right now we support drivers only. The recommended launch angle and spin ranges are completely different for each club, and irons split again by loft, so each needs its own reference table.

The driver has the biggest effect on your score, so we started there.

Who made this?

OhMyShaft is built by one person and run by «Bulpyeonhan Chae Gangta», who loves golf for real. He completed the club fitting course at Fitters Club, and designed the analysis items with reference to Ralph Maltby's club fitting book and other literature.

It isn't an official service of any manufacturer, and it has no partnership or sponsorship with any brand. The criteria are all published on the criteria page, so you can check them yourself.

The result looks wrong — how do I let you know?

If you disagree with a criterion, or you got a result that's clearly wrong, tell us. If the reasoning holds up, we'll change the criteria.

In particular, a launch monitor screen we haven't seen before that doesn't read properly is fixed as soon as we add that device's labels. Send it with a photo of the screen and we'll take care of it.
